The African Bush - Nature's Mental Asylum!

The African Bush - Nature\'s Mental Asylum!

The African Bush – Nature’s Mental Asylum!
(By Malcolm Thomson – General Manager: Pongola Game Reserve)

My father-in-law once described the African bush as nature’s mental asylum and in all my years living and working in this environment I have yet to hear a truer word, or a more apt description of the bush.

The majority of us are forced to live in a fast paced and hectic urban environment, working our fingers to the bone just to make ends meet. This is largely a highly stressful environment; in an attempt to provide a reasonable living for our children and families. This is “ultimate survival”, particularly in these modern times.

We need to “de-stress” and there is no better place to do this than the African bush; where the scenic vistas, sunrises and sunsets are the Therapists and the Fish Eagle, Hippo, Hyena and Jackal are the Psychologists. Who is better qualified, with millennia of experience, to strip away the stress and recharge those “proverbial batteries”?

Think about it; where do you go when you have reached that breaking point and need a break? The African bush! You arrive, stressed and tired, without much perspective on life. Once you have been in the bush for few days, you can feel the stress fall away and you start to regain that all important appreciation of life, you can literally feel those batteries charging! When you leave, you once again feel that you have the zest and mental energy to take on that fast paced and hectic urban working environment again, until the next time you feel the urge to visit nature’s mental asylum.

Come visit us on Pongola Game Reserve (the ultimate consulting room); there is no better place to recharge those batteries.
